Olympic National Park

Stunning Wilderness of Olympic National Park, Washington

Olympic National Park, located near Port Angeles in the Pacific Northwest’s Olympic Peninsula, is a remarkable showcase of natural diversity and scenic beauty. Covering nearly a million acres, the park stands out for its extraordinary range of ecosystems—from glacier-capped peaks and wild coastlines to dense temperate rainforests. Established in 1938, this national park offers visitors an unmatched chance to witness pristine old-growth forests, dramatic sea stacks, and rugged mountain vistas—all within driving distance of a vibrant small city.

Key highlights near Port Angeles include Hurricane Ridge, known for panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains and seasonal wildflower meadows, and the Pacific coastline, where Rialto Beach provides dazzling tidal pools and sculpted driftwood along sea-scrubbed shores. The Hoh Rainforest, one of the park’s most famous spots, receives immense annual rainfall, cultivating giant Sitka spruce and western hemlock trees draped with thick moss. Mount Olympus, the park’s highest summit at nearly 8,000 feet, features glaciers that sculpt the alpine terrain and attract climbers seeking challenging ascents.

This landscape is alive with wildlife including Roosevelt elk, black bears, and diverse bird species, framed by ancient forests and sparkling rivers. Visitors appreciate how dramatically the park’s ecosystems shift—from misty forest trails one day to coastal sunsets the next—making every moment unique. The area holds deep cultural significance for native tribes such as the Quileute and Hoh, whose historical ties enhance the visitor experience with meaningful stories.

Whether hiking through glacier-formed alpine meadows or wandering along pebble-strewn beaches, Olympic National Park provides a striking outdoor environment unlike anywhere else in the region.
