Since we are a small, very short staffed commercial farm, we cannot guarantee we will be able to make every request happen, but will do our best to accommodate you! Times must be between 10:30AM and 2PM HST, and subject to change during various harvest seasons, as the crops take priority. Private tours have a minimum of 4 adults at a $45 per person rate. Children will remain the same price as regular tours.
1.5 - 2 hours, depending on the amount of questions and “talk story” time.
Private tours also available for 5 or more adults! Email us at info@MahiaiMade.com with your requests.
We will guide you through our cacao & ʻulu orchards to experience and taste our Hawai‘i grown cacao. Our farm is home to cacao, bananas, ‘ulu, coconut, açaí palms, and free range chickens! We have a spacious view of Hilo Bay, where you may see whales breaching in winter or outrigger canoe races. You'll learn about cacao from the orchard to harvest, fermentation, drying & flavor creation.
Next you will visit our factory and shop to see the machinery we use to roast, winnow, stone grind, temper & hand pour our small batch chocolates. You'll be able to sample our cacao beans, nibs, cacao tea, steamed ʻulu (when in season) and chocolates!
Afterwards you will be able to shop with 5% off and can find our tree-to-bar handcrafted chocolates, a wide variety of samples, European style drinking chocolate, Kaʻū coffee, chocolate dipped dried fruits, chocolate macadamia nuts, and more. Great for stocking up your faves, gifts and omiyage!
Tour starts at the farm. Directions will be emailed to you after booking the tour

Please be aware this is a walking tour of a commercial farm where guests must walk on unpaved and uneven terrain between the trees. We are outdoors and exposed to quickly changing weather. We unfortunately do not have any trams or shuttles at this time.
A note about us: Hawaiian Crown Hilo is rebranding to Mahi‘ai Made! Mahi‘ai (pronounced like “ma-he eye”) is the Hawaiian word for “farmer” or “to cultivate.” The name Hawaiian Crown was created by master farmer Tom Menezes and his business partners, back when they grew 100 acres of pineapple on the island of O‘ahu. Hence the crown aspect! In recent years, the pineapples have unfortunately been phased out due to the high cost of maintenance and those O‘ahu partners have retired. Tom's daughter, Oona, has stepped into ownership with him and undergone the rebranding efforts as a way to honor the company’s grass roots and her father’s lifelong dedication to sustainable farming in Hawai‘i.
We hope to share not only our love for chocolate, but of farming and the islands with you on our laid back, Hilo style tour!
