The building you are going to visit was built in the late 1200s to represent the second seat of the Florentine Republic. In 1500 following the political rise of the Medici family, the palace became the residence of Grand Duke Cosimo I, who became lord, as well as the owner of the city. During the 1800s, during the period of capital Florence, it also became the seat of the Italian Parliament. Today, however, in addition to representing one of the most important tourist attractions of inestimable historical and cultural value, it is also the seat of the Municipality of Florence. Entering inside the museum, you will visit the private rooms of the Grand Dukes of the Medici family, entirely renovated by Giorgio Vasari, and the rooms of the Government of the Italian Republic. Subsequently, the guide will show you the main attraction of the building, namely Salone dei 500, frescoed entirely by Giorgio Vasari, as well as the halls and apartments of the Grand Duchess Eleonora of Toledo. By finishing the visit, you will visit other very important rooms, such as the Gigli room, the Geographical Maps room, and the last Chancellor of the Republic room.
