Beekeeping Tour

What can you learn about bees in an hour? A lot! Especially when you explore them in their hive with our experienced beekeepers.

This is what you will see and do:

• A tour and inspection of a live hive with our beekeeper, where you can watch and learn how bees live and forage. • Free sampling of all our different honey varietals.
• A short video explaining the production of honey from flower to jar. • Once the tour is over, you are welcome to browse the museum's artifacts and historical items, and peruse the many unique, locally produced gift items.

Getting Here

We're located close to the Painted Church, Kealakekua Bay (where Captain Cook first landed on the island), an ancient heiau (temple), Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park and Greenwell Coffee Farm.

CAUTION: We are located on a rural island where taxis are not readily available. Therefore, if you are getting a ride to Big Island Bees via a taxi or a ride-sharing app, please prearrange a pick-up as well to return you to your destination after the tour.

Reservations are required

Our tour is open to people of all ages and is stroller and wheelchair accessible.

In order to maintain proper social distancing, all our tours are limited to eight people, including children. Please make sure to reserve space for each member of your party, including children.

Both the indoor and outdoor portion of the tour is undercover. Minimal walking is required. No protective clothing is necessary. Shorts, sleeveless shirts, and sandals are welcome.
