Racing the Ozarks: A Day-to-Night Run on Branson’s Copperhead Mountain Coaster

Ages 3+ • Physical Requirements Apply • Branson’s longest downhill Mountain Coaster!

Branson, Missouri

Dusk creeps over the Ozark foothills and the trees start to glow, a constellation of LEDs threading through oak and hickory. The cart clicks up the lift and the forest hushes, as if holding its breath. Then the hill lets go. The track tips into a graceful plunge and the Copperhead Mountain Coaster comes alive—curves daring you forward, wind urging you to lean into the next drop, the Ozarks themselves nudging you along as if the hillside has a sense of humor and a need for speed. This is Branson’s longest downhill run, and it doesn’t waste a foot of its nearly mile-long course.

Trail Wisdom

Do the waiver first

Sign the waiver and pick up your paper ticket at the booth before joining the line—online purchase doesn’t skip this step.

Closed-toe shoes only

Wear secure, closed-toe footwear and tie laces tight; flip-flops and loose sandals aren’t allowed.

Chase the LEDs

For a totally different feel, ride after sunset when the course glows with thousands of LEDs and the air cools.

Mind the weather and weight limits

The coaster runs in rain, snow, and sun; combined cart weight limits are lower in wet conditions. Check posted limits before riding.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Inspiration Tower for 360-degree Ozark views on the same homestead
  • Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation Area trails just northwest for a pre-ride leg stretch

Wildlife

White-tailed deer, Pileated woodpeckers

Conservation Note

Stay on signed paths around the track and respect wooded areas—Ozark glades and understory plants are sensitive. Pack out all trash and keep noise down to avoid disturbing wildlife.

Shepherd’s Adventure Park sits on the homestead made famous by Harold Bell Wright’s 1907 novel The Shepherd of the Hills, a story that helped spark early tourism in Branson.

Seasonal Guide

spring

Best for: Mild temps, Shorter lines

Challenges: Rain showers, Variable hours early season

Wildflowers and fresh leaves frame the track; bring a light shell for passing showers and catch quieter midweek sessions.

summer

Best for: Late-night LED rides, Family trips

Challenges: Heat and humidity, Longer wait times midday

Beat the heat with evening laps—cooler air and the glow of the forest make summer nights the sweet spot.

fall

Best for: Peak foliage views, Crisp riding weather

Challenges: Busy weekends, Early sunsets

Maples and oaks flare color, and cool air sharpens the ride. Go early or midweek for faster queues.

winter

Best for: Clear views through bare trees, Lower crowds

Challenges: Cold temps, Potential weather delays

Bundle up and enjoy stark Ozark vistas; the coaster runs in cold, but check conditions for any weather holds.

Photographer's Notes

Cameras aren’t allowed on the ride, so shoot from the loading zone or along designated viewing areas. Use a fast shutter (1/500s+) to freeze carts on curves; after dark, switch to a tripod or high ISO and pan with the LED-lit sleds for motion blur. Golden hour adds dimension to ridgelines; at night, expose for the LEDs and let the forest fall to silhouette.

What to Bring

Closed-toe shoes with good gripEssential

Required for safety and best control while loading and braking.

Lightweight rain shell

The coaster runs in the rain; a shell keeps you dry and comfortable on wet-weather laps.

Sunscreen and lip balm (SPF 30+)

There’s little shade on the lift—protect skin during sunny daytime rides.

Eyewear retainer or secure-fit glassesEssential

Wind picks up on the descent; secure your glasses per on-site guidance.
