About Bothe-Napa Valley State Park

Bothe-Napa Valley State Park is located in the northern end of California’s famous Napa Valley, known primarily for its vineyards and wine production. The park features 3,161 acres of mixed oak woodlands, Douglas fir, madrones, and bay laurel, providing a lush and diverse habitat for local wildlife including deer, coyotes, and numerous bird species. It sits along the eastern edge of the valley floor, bordered by State Route 29. Established in 1960, the park preserves a portion of the native forest that once blanketed the region before viticulture transformed most of the landscape. Recreation opportunities include over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails weaving through shaded forest floors, meadows, and creek corridors. The park is also home to the Pioneer House, a historic 1884 stagecoach inn preserved as a visitor attraction and museum. Camping facilities with shaded campsites offer visitors overnight experiences surrounded by tall trees and quiet natural beauty. Visitors often enjoy wildlife viewing, picnicking, and learning about the area’s early settler history. The park’s location makes it an excellent natural complement to Napa Valley’s wine tourism, providing a tranquil contrast to the busy vineyards and tasting rooms. Accessibility via Highway 29 allows easy day use, while trails vary in difficulty to accommodate families and more experienced hikers alike. The nearby Napa River meanders along the park’s edge, enhancing the scenic atmosphere. Bothe-Napa Valley State Park offers a well-rounded outdoor experience with a blend of natural, historical, and recreational features set among one of California’s most visited regions.
