Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Cascade Head Scenic Research Area is a designated United Nations Biosphere Reserve located on the Oregon Coast and spans approximately 9,670 acres. It is a place of remarkable ecological diversity, home to rare plant species such as the endangered Oregon silverspot butterfly and the unique Cascade Head catchfly. The area includes highland meadows, expansive coastal views, and dense temperate rainforests. First inhabited by Native American tribes and later used by European settlers, the area preserves both the cultural and natural history of the region. Recreation opportunities abound, with hiking being the most popular due to trails providing access to breathtaking vistas and diverse ecosystems.
