Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Wilsons Promontory National Park, colloquially known as 'The Prom,' covers the southernmost tip of mainland Australia in Victoria. Spanning over 195 square miles, the park is renowned for its rugged granite mountains, sweeping beaches, lush rainforests, and pristine rocky headlands. Historically significant due to its Aboriginal heritage and past as a base for European explorers, the park offers a wealth of natural and cultural attractions. The shifting dunes of the Big Drift, the panoramic vistas from the summit of Mount Oberon, and the remarkable biodiversity are just a few of its defining features. Recreational opportunities abound, from hiking and overnight treks to camping, bird watching, and exploring secluded beaches. Visitors are drawn to the exquisite landscapes, which serve as habitats for native species like emus, kangaroos, and wombats.
