About Greensfelder County Park

Greensfelder County Park spans over 1,200 acres of forested land located in St. Louis County, Missouri. The park features a variety of ecosystems including oak-hickory woodlands, rolling hills, and small streams that support local wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous bird species. Established in 1963 and managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation and St. Louis County Parks, the park offers extensive trail systems totaling approximately 15 miles. These trails attract hikers, mountain bikers, and nature observers, providing a moderate level of challenge through rugged terrain and scenic overlooks. Aside from trails, the park includes picnic areas, open fields for sports and family gatherings, and several primitive camping sites for overnight stays. Historical aspects of the park include remnants of early homesteads and occasional archeological finds that reflect the area's past agricultural use before becoming a protected green space. Greensfelder is appreciated for its tranquil environment, away from the more crowded St. Louis metropolitan attractions, making it a favorite for outdoor recreation and environmental education. Visitors enjoy birdwatching, especially during spring and fall migrations, and many take advantage of the park's well-maintained trailheads and easy access points from Highway 109 and Highway T. The park's diverse habitats and recreational facilities make it an important natural resource within the suburban setting of St. Louis County.
