We leave Inverness and head south down the A9. We have the option to call in a Tomatin Distillery which is classed as a Highland whisky rather than Speyside. We turn off the A9 before Carrbridge and head eastwards towards Speyside where we have the opportunity to visit some of the following distilleries, either for a tour or just a visit/tasting.
I suggest maybe a maximum of two distillery tours and perhaps popping in to visit another during the day for an impromptu tasting and the chance to buy some distillery exclusives.
Glenfarclas, Glenallachie and Cardhu are must visits in my opinion. All three are small enough to offer the personal touch. There are others I recommend, especially Balvenie but as ever the day is yours.
Please contact with me before booking distillery tours so I can arrange to leave Inverness in time for the tour (some of the Speyside Distilleries are a 2 hour drive from Inverness). I am also happy to do the booking and reserving of places to visit.
Price does not include refreshments or admission for guided distillery tours. Distilleries are free to visit but their tours need to be booked in advance.
Speyside distillery tours often sell out, so reserve your spot early.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking and tasting.
Jot down tasting notes or facts you learn during the guided tour.
Drink plenty of water, especially if sampling multiple whiskies.
The Speyside region has been producing whisky for over 200 years, shaping Scotland’s reputation as a whisky capital.
Many distilleries in the area are adopting sustainable practices, including waste reduction and water recycling, helping preserve the local environment.
Appropriate footwear for walking through distillery facilities.
Useful for jotting down tasting notes or interesting facts.
Stay hydrated during your full-day excursion.
Weather can be unpredictable in the Highlands, so prepare for rain.
