Ride Route

Wyeth to Viento State Park. Our new route this year starts less than a quarter-mile from the Historic Highway State Trail, allowing you to ride to a series of spectacular waterfalls without sharing a road with cars. You'll also have the option to visit one of the most scenic swimming holes in the Gorge at Viento State Park, where many of our guests enjoy a picnic snack (see optional add-ons) halfway into the 13-mile ride.

What you'll see and experience

Historic Highway State Trail. Opened in 2019, this section of pristine paved bike trail includes the jaw-dropping Summit Creek Viaduct, which carries riders 500 feet above the river and offers breathtaking views of the Gorge in every direction.

Hole-in-the-Wall Falls. The "newest" waterfall in the Gorge was born when crews blasted a small channel (or hole in the wall) through the rock in 1938 to help prevent nearby flooding. Don't miss the chance to dip your feet in its refreshing plunge basin, or pack a swimsuit if you want to wade all the way in.

Cabin Creek Falls. You'll feel the cool air coming from this waterfall even before you see it, and if you're feeling adventurous (and have good footwear), you can climb up a short, steep slope to walk behind the falls.

Starvation Creek Falls. The tallest waterfall in Starvation Creek State Park is also the site of a harrowing historical event that inspired the park's name. The good news is everyone survived, so you can enjoy the incredible views here without feeling squeamish.

Lancaster Falls and Emerald Falls. Unlike the other three waterfalls that are visible from the trail, these two require short hikes to see them, but they're worth the extra effort if you enjoy going off the beaten trail to find the Gorge's hidden gems.

Viento State Park. The park's waterfront is a popular place to take a dip in the river and soak up the sun halfway into the ride, and on a sunny day, you may get to watch locals show off their kitesurfing skills.

Why you'll love it

Experience the best of the Gorge. You’ll see towering firs, sweeping views of the river, and up to five spectacular waterfalls all while enjoying a leisurely ride on the Historic Highway State Trail.

Ride on a car-free bike path. This route follows a car-free bike path for virtually the entire ride, making it perfect for beginner riders and anyone else who prefers a more peaceful ride without car traffic.

Go at your own pace. With 3 hours to complete this tour, you'll have plenty of time to explore the waterfalls, relax on the beach at Viento State Park, and even enjoy a picnic snack.
