Approx 8 hours
An extension to the suggested full day Sonning Bridge return trip but not too much extra paddling, Henley is a long day trip downstream of about 11.5 miles and 4 locks between your start at our base in Reading to the collection point at Henley so it is more suitable for older children and adults. Your route takes you along the Henley Royal Regatta course so you could try to speed up for this last section if you have the energy!
You will paddle down to Caversham where you will see a bank of swans that have made their home around the bridge area. You will leave behind the built-up area of central Reading and hit the peaceful countryside and beautiful scenery after passing through Caversham lock.
You can stop off along the way at Sonning Bridge, just after Sonning Lock, for a quick coffee, then carry on paddling. Wargrave, just after Shiplake Lock, is a great place to stop if you are looking for a lunch. You have the choice of going down St Patrick's Stream or paddling down the Hennerton Backwater before arriving in Henley, just below Marsh Lock but make sure you leave enough time to get through Marsh Lock to arrive in Henley at the agreed pick-up time to meet our staff who will collect the boats.
You will be met by our staff at our base at The Boat Yard and they will give you a full safety briefing and get you kitted out with buoyancy aids, paddles and dry bags before helping you on to your boats to start your trip.
