About This Adventure

Join an immersive one-day powerboat training course that focuses on close quarter maneuvering in an inboard diesel powerboat. Gain essential skills in safety, line handling, and navigation while earning your AB 101 Single Engine certification. Experience hands-on evaluations and expert instruction, ensuring a memorable day on the water.

One-day course training students close quarter maneuvering in a single Inboard diesel powerboat. There will be a written test at the end of the course. On-the-water evaluations will be on-going throughout the course.

This course introduces Powerboat theory, safety briefing, vessel familiarization and a pre-departure checklist. It also teaches line handling skills and knots, maneuvers in various wind angles, crosswinds, currents, backing in and standing turns. Students will practice communication techniques, safety methods and properly securing of the vessel.

Candidates will be evaluated on Boat Handling skills and will need to pass written exams at the end of the clinic to earn the AB 101 Single Engine certification.

What to Bring

  • Non-marking shoes, such as tennis shoes or deck shoes without black bottoms that might leave scuff marks on the boats
  • Bring layers to wear; it is cooler out on the water. Bring rain gear in case it rains
  • RPBA textbook and logbook
  • Writing pad, pen

What to Expect

  • The course begins promptly at 9 am. The instructor will guide you to course location either on the boat, Cap Sante Marina, F-Dock, or starting at the classroom located at 3116 V Place.

Getting to the waterfront early ensures ample time for registration and a relaxed start to your hands-on experience.

Wear appropriate clothing
