Join the Billion Oyster Project for a hands-on volunteer experience that directly contributes to restoring the harbor's oyster population. Spend five hours cleaning and preparing shells, getting a little messy while making a meaningful impact. This unique opportunity allows you to connect with nature and support marine life conservation efforts.

At this volunteer event, you will help Billion Oyster Project with washing, and loading clean shells into super trays so they can be used to grow more oysters.
Please note: we reserve public volunteer days for the general public only. It would be unfair to allow any affiliated/corporate groups to sign up on these days as we do corporate/private volunteer days on Governors Island that can be customized based on your needs.
ATTIRE: Clothes you don't mind getting dirty or scratched. We will provide work gloves and eye protection on site.
BRING: Reusable water bottle, sun protection, lunch/snack.
ALL volunteers must be 16 and older.
Expect to climb over rocks and work near water; sturdy footwear will protect your feet.
Staying hydrated is key during the active shell-cleaning tasks in outdoor conditions.
Prepare to get dirty and wet; clothing that can handle stains and moisture is recommended.
No public announcement is made for boarding; be at Battery Maritime Building a bit before 9:30 AM to secure your spot.
