Come explore and print tropical leaves with cyanotype sunlight printing at the Kampong. The cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic printing processes invented in 1842 by British scientist Sir John Herschel and used early on by botanist Anna Atkins in 1843 for her algae studies. This process involves a UV ray-sensitive solution, which, when exposed to sunlight, undergoes a chemical transformation into the iconic cyan blue. This solution is brushed onto fabric and dried in darkness. Any object, shape, or leaf laid on top of the dry fabric and exposed to the sunlight will create a magical and beautiful record printed by the sun. We will follow Anna Atkins path to create beautiful images and be inspired by the natural beauty and astonishing shapes of tropical plants located at The Kampong, one of Miami’s most stunning gardens. Suitable for ages 16 and up. All materials included.
