The iconic lobby of the Met Opera alone is a stunning space, and the massive theater is breathtaking, but all of the magic is created behind the scenes. On this special access tour, guests will see firsthand how the opera's extravagant productions come to life in buzzing backstage areas like the scenic and carpentry shops, the wig shop, costume shop, and see where the actors prepare in their dressing rooms.

Things to Know:

  • Walking & Wheelchairs: The Backstage Tour includes considerable standing, walking, stairs, and elevators. The opera house is able to accommodate individuals using wheelchairs or having other mobility challenges if a request is made at least 1 week before the desired tour date. Please call 212-870-7623 with questions and to reserve.
  • Bags & Backpacks: Backpacks, briefcases, shopping bags, luggage, and other packages are not permitted on the tour, though a small purse/handbag/wallet may be carried. Checkroom facilities are not available, so please plan accordingly. Tourists with large bags and packages may be turned away from the tour and not refunded or rescheduled.
  • Photography: Photography is not permitted while in the Metropolitan Opera House.
  • Restrooms: There are no restrooms available on the tour route.
  • Tourists may use the public facilities before and/or after the tour.

*Please note that as The Met Opera is a working opera house, not all areas may be available on every tour.
