About

The Boat We sneak up on fish in a Parker 21SE Custom boat, outfitted to fish the waters of Montauk. Captain Tim is USCG certified and trained in first aid. Life jackets are provided as required by USCG and children under the age of 12 must wear a life jacket at all times.

The Gear

Experienced anglers always want to use their own gear. If you are without your gear or not sure what to bring, we will provide you with use of the best rods and reels in the fly fishing industry. We use Sage rods and reels, with all gear in the 8 and 9 weight class to cover your fishing needs and styles. When sight fishing in the flats, we use Hewes light tackle 20. Bait is provided on our trips where necessary and a wide array of hand tied flies are provided for our anglers.

The Season

Our season begins in April, when bass run in the shallow waters off the East End. From the Peconic Bays to Montauk Point, small schoolie bass are fun to catch sight fishing in the shallow flats. As the water temperature rises, the size and number of fish follow suit. Mid to late May, fishing season is in full swing. We stalk stalk bass up to 20lbs sight fishing the flats. The rips and deep water of the East End begin to harbor an abundance of bait, providing endless fishing options. Striped bass, bluefish & weakfish all show up and the action gets exciting through the summer months. Reaching beyond fly fishing, we use live bait and light tackle to target stripers in the 30+ range. As the summer cools into the comfortable days of fall, Montauk really delivers. The 'fall run' provides opportunity to catch nice size stripers and bluefish, along with false albacore in large schools. These fish may be seen 'boiling' on the surface, and can provide a true fish of a lifetime experience! Montauk Point Fly Fishing is your go to Charter Service for all your fly fishing and light tackle needs. We work hard so you have your best possible fishing experience.

Adventure Tips

Check the tide schedule

Fishing success heavily depends on tides—plan your trip around mid to high tides for best results.

Bring polarized sunglasses

Polarized lenses reduce glare and help spot fish below the water's surface.

Dress in layers

Sea breezes can make mornings chilly even in summer; layering keeps you comfortable.

Stay hydrated and bring sunscreen

Long hours on the water require sun protection and plenty of fluids to stay energized.
