The Chattahoochee tailwater, or better known as the "HOOCH," is arguably the best trout water in the “Deep South.” Both the Chestatee and Chattahoochee Rivers originate in the vast Chattahoochee National Forest lands of the North Georgia Appalachian Mountains.
Trout Unlimited members across the state of Georgia voted the Chattahoochee as their number one trout destination in the state. These voters also selected the tailwater section as the feature river for Trout Unlimited TV which airs nationally on ESPN2. The fact that there is significant natural propagation (15%) among brown trout gives the river added credibility as an aesthetic and challenging fly fishing destination. Our impressive caddis fly hatches in the Spring bring the river alive with activity.
Our trips are dependent upon the ever-changing nature of the Chattahoochee and water levels.
Polarized lenses help reduce glare on the water, making it easier to spot trout beneath the surface.
Mornings can be cool near the water, so dressing in layers allows you to adjust comfort throughout the day.
To protect the trout’s delicate skin and scales, always wet your hands before handling and release them carefully.
Bring insect spray to ward off mosquitoes and other bugs common near streams during warmer months.
Roswell’s waterways have supported fishing and local industry since the 19th century, with historic mills still visible nearby.
Local organizations work to preserve water quality and trout habitats through catch-and-release practices and habitat restoration.
High-quality fly fishing gear improves presentation and control on trout streams.
Waterproof waders keep you dry and comfortable while wading in cold streams.
