The Wave, officially referred to as Coyote Buttes North, is an iconic jewel of southern Utah. The lack of access to real ocean waves in this desert climate is compensated for here as the striking geological sandstone formations create rock waves. If you are lucky enough to obtain a permit, the hike can be rugged and challenging but we promise it will exceed your expectations.
We are happy to pick you up wherever you are staying if it is local to Kanab. You will specify your pickup location when you book. If you are driving in for the day, then we will meet you at the Coral Cliffs Tours office in Kanab (address will be given to you). If you are coming from Page, we can even meet you at the off road turn off parking lot at House Rock Valley Road and Highway 89 junction.
*This is very strenuous hike, please insure that you are physically capable of hiking 6-12 miles in uneven terrain and extreme weather and prepare accordingly.
Carry at least 3 liters of water per person to stay hydrated throughout the desert hike.
Use sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself from intense sun exposure.
Wear sturdy hiking boots to navigate the uneven, rocky surfaces and shifting sandstone formations.
Ensure you have a valid permit before the tour, as access to The Wave is highly restricted.
The Wave is part of the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, a landscape shaped over millions of years with cultural significance to Native American tribes.
