About

Welcome to New Orleans! And to your New Orleans Culinary History tour - the tour that tastes good!

Prepare yourself for a great afternoon! Meet your guide at Creole Cookery, 510 Toulouse, at ten minutes before 1:00.You will be greeted by one of our good-looking and brainy guides, who will get to know you and introduce themselves.

There you will enjoy a cup of tantalizing Creole Jambalaya ~ a real New Orleans favorite, before you are whisked off to the next dining pleasure. You will enjoy multiple local dishes, such as a cup of steaming hot gumbo, the Muffaletta sandwich (a contribution from the Sicilian immigrants), and Red Beans and rice ~ The famed jazz musician, Louis Armstrong's favorite dish, by the way!

Along the way you will learn the historic difference between Cajun and Creole cuisine, and how they developed. As you go from restaurant to restaurant, you will hear stories about the rich history of, and see the fascinating architecture of our quirky, 300 year old French Quarter. There's no place like it!

You will end your tour with a mouthwatering dessert that came to us from France: the pecan praline. In case you're curious, praline is pronounced prah-leen, not pray-leen. And pecan is pronounced puh-kawn, not pee-kan Pronounce them correctly and you're almost a native!

The tour will end near historic Jackson Square, the heart of the French Quarter. Afterwards, stroll through the Square ... visit St. Louis Cathedral ... take a stroll alongside the mighty Mississippi River ... shop at one of our chic boutiques ... visit the Jazz Museum ... explore the French Market ... check out the 1850 House on the Square for a nice selection of books ... have a cocktail ... whatever sounds like fun! Your tour guide is a wealth of information and will be happy to answer any questions.

FAQs

How much food is served on the tour? What sort of food will I be sampling?

We visit five prominent, historic restaurants and shops. The mouthwatering dishes you will enjoy include some savory Red Beans and Rice, Louis Armstrong's favorite dish!, a section of a Muffaletta Italian sandwich, a cup of steaming hot Seafood Gumbo, rich, spicy Creole Jambalaya, and for dessert, a New Orleans must: a pecan Praline. (Please keep in mind that items and restaurants may change. Certain things are out of our control.)

Are beverages provided?

Water is served at each stop on the tour. Soft drinks, beer and cocktails are available for purchase.

If I am bringing an infant/very young child, do I need to purchase a ticket for them?

If the child shares food with an adult, there is no need to purchase a separate ticket.

What about dietary restrictions?

Sorry, no substitutions. Many local dishes are cooked with sausage or ham, including Red Beans and Rice. The Muffaletta sandwich is made with ham and prosciutto. Also, there are no options for vegetarian or vegan diets. Again, sorry.

Do we just walk around and sample food?

Heck no! Prepare yourself for a great afternoon! First of all, our guides are good-looking and brainy. They will regale you with stories about the rich history of the quaint, old French Quarter. You will see marvelous architecture, dating back over 200 years. All questions will be answered. Bring yours! Your guide will impart details about the historic pathways of our local food ... from France, Spain, Italy (Sicily), Africa, the Caribbean, Acadia ...

How much walking is included?

The blocks in the French Quarter are short, (having been laid out in 1718), and the restaurants are in pretty close proximity. That being said, wear comfortable shoes. Oh, and bringing an umbrella is always a good idea.

Are stairs involved?

No, No worries.

Is the tour wheelchair or stroller accessible? Yes, the tour is accessible to wheel chairs and strollers.

What if it rains?

Tours run rain or shine. However, if the weather is really extreme, the company reserves the right to cancel the tour. You will be notified at least two hours before tour time if this should occur. Hopefully, you can reschedule the tour, but if not, a refund will be made.

Can I bring my dog?

We love dogs! But alas, the restaurants do not. Pets are not allowed in restaurants with the exception of guide dogs. Emotional support dogs are not allowed.

What does the tour offer to the native New Orleanian?

We like to say, "Come be a tourist in your own hometown!" Bring your family and friends as well, so that they too can be fascinated by the beautiful architecture, hear the history of our quirky city, and taste delicious local dishes. Also, your tour guide is a gold mine of information, who will be happy to answer any and all questions. We look forward to welcoming you!

What's NOT Included?
