About

Originally “Number 7” until the 1970’s, is also one of the eight log cabins hired by Jim Harris to be constructed by a Swedish carpenter in the 1930’s for $60 apiece. Legend has it he worked through the winter. It has been refurbished twice, first in the early 1970’s by Russel and Benet, and then Doug Mastellar. Russell was a commercial fisherman, hence the name “Tackle”, or possibly it was derived from the horse tackle used at Burgdorf for early ranching. It is winterized, has a queen bed and a loft with a full bed, and accommodates 4 guests.

Our cabins at Burgdorf are simple and rustic. Remember they are sparsely furnished log cabins, so you need to come prepared. In each cabin, you can expect a wood-burning stove for heat and bed with a recently purchased mattress and mattress cover, a clean sheet upon which to place your desired bedding or sleeping bag, as well as a table and chairs. The cabins do not have electricity or water. Outhouses are close by and firewood is on the porch. All cabins are within walking distance to the office and pool area. The surrounding area is scenic and natural. No pets allowed on property: Please leave your furry friends at home. Think camping with a cozy fire, in a clean cabin, with a bed.

What to bring:

  • Bring your own sleeping bag, pillow, or desired bedding (subzero Fahrenheit recommended for winter time)
  • Cooking utensils and supplies. You can bring your own camp stove if desired. It is possible to carefully use pans on the wood heat stoves, but please be mindful of fire danger. Only propane cook stoves will be permitted, please no charcoal grills. Do your part and bring a reusable coffee cup for complimentary coffee and tea.
  • Lighting needs: Some rechargeable battery lighting will be fitted and to remain inside your cabin, but please bring your own lamps as well to safely move about the property (to the pool, your outhouse, etc.)
  • A container to carry water from the central spigot
  • Additional toilet paper
