The raft drops into a bowl of light and water, the canyon walls closing like bookends as the Snake gathers speed. Salt spray flashes across your cheeks and the guide’s voice—calm, clipped—cuts through the rush: paddle forward. For three hours the river alternates between playful, chop-splashed rapids and long, glassy stretches where the current seems to carry conversation downstream.

Plan to be at Mad River Boathouse 30 minutes before launch to complete waivers and get fitted for PFDs and splash gear.
Avoid cotton—synthetics dry faster when you get splashed and retain less heat when wet.
Use a retainer strap; glare is strong on the river and you’ll want eye protection for both sun and spray.
High water in late spring can make the run louder and faster—check conditions 72 hours before and be flexible.
