Once the frontier of the Roman Empire, Hadrian’s Wall is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Starting in Newcastle (or your chosen hotel to collect you from) we will travel along the wall and your guide will explain the history of the Roman wall. After arriving at the Roman fort of Housesteads – the most complete Roman fort remaining in Britain your guide will provide a full and detailed tour of the site. This will give you the opportunity to see the wall up close, discover its soldiers and take in the wild geography of the frontier.
After visiting the fort, we’ll stop for a well-earned lunch at the Twice Brewed Inn. We’ll then proceed to Vindolanda, a Roman supply base that has been extensively excavated, where you’ll get great insight into the lives of people who lived here in Roman times.
