Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary is a privately stewarded nature preserve located near Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, protecting one of the island’s rare cloud forest habitats. Family stewardship of the sanctuary began in 1982, and the property is managed as a conservation and education site. The sanctuary offers guided public and private experiences that introduce visitors to the cloud forest’s rare flora, native birds, and unique geology.
Guided tours include a 2.5-hour Montane Jungle Trail tour and a 1.5-hour Pantropical Lower Loop Trail tour, both led by informed guides who explain plant identification, ecological history, and birdwatching highlights. The Early Bird guided birding tour focuses on native honeycreepers and birding skills during morning hours. Conservational volunteering opportunities are available through Mālama ʻĀina service events that involve trail work and native planting.
Wellness experiences at the sanctuary integrate the forest setting with sound baths, guided meditations, yoga, and movement sessions. The Exploring Within music and movement journey is led by Briana Sophia Torres on Sundays. Private sound bath sessions are offered with Pam, a facilitator who uses crystal singing bowls for immersive healing sessions. Slow-flow yoga classes are offered midweek among the trees.
The sanctuary operates as an educational, conservation-focused destination that emphasizes hands-on care, guided interpretation, and respectful visitor engagement. Visitors are encouraged to book guided tours or private sessions to experience the cloud forest’s biodiversity and tranquility while supporting ongoing stewardship. Educational materials, interpretive signage, and knowledgeable guides support learning for families, students, and conservation-minded visitors year-round through seasonal programs and outreach.
