##About Students learn to apply navigational theory and practices for safe navigation of a vessel in coastal and inland waters. This is an endorsement course but is a pre-requisite for Advanced Coastal Cruising 106.
During this evening course you will practice the following techniques: • Study charts, chart symbols, depths, hazards, aids to navigation and the compass rose. Research symbols in Chart #1 publication. • Apply compass corrections based on True, Variation, Magnetic, Deviation and Course to steer. • Study required and recommended publications and navigation tools and instruments. • Learn to plot dead reckoning courses based on time, speed and distance. • Learn to locate position and plot fixes based on compass bearings, depth, range and local reference points. • Learn to utilize tide and current guides and to determine heading based on set and drift corrections. • Determine speed of current and depth of tide at any time utilizing primary and secondary reference stations. • You will also research weather sources and discuss fog navigation techniques. • The class prices include all materials, certifications, fees, and taxes. ##Recommendations • Before the first day of class, read Chapters 1-5 in the ASA textbook and review included CD. Please review the course text and study guide in advance of your course and make sure to bring all materials to the class with you.
##Special Note: This course is classroom-only and on-the-water instruction is continued in the ASA Advanced Coastal Cruising 106 course. Passing the written exam, you will earn your ASA Coastal Navigation 105 certification.
