About This Adventure

Embark on a self-guided 2-day bikepacking adventure through Scotland's breathtaking autumn and winter landscapes. Experience the vibrant colors of fall or the serene beauty of winter trails at your own pace. Enjoy cozy hostel stays and full logistical support, making this an unforgettable journey into nature's seasonal splendor.

About

Bikepacking does not have to be limited to the summer months. Some of the best days on a bike can be experienced in the winter.

Join our guide Emily on a two day bikepacking adventure in the depths of winter. The days will be filled with cycling through some of the best landscape we have. At night, you will be staying in a warm, dry and cosy hostel.

What to expect:

A whole load of bicycle based winter fun.

Day 1

  • 10:00 - meet at Comrie Croft.
  • Introductions, and an explanation of ‘what to expect’.
  • Pack and load bikes
  • Once all bikes are fully loaded, Emily will lead you out on your journey.
  • 45 km and 700m of ascent.
  • The first day will end at a hostel.

Day 2

  • Breakfast
  • Load bikes, and Emily will lead you out your return journey to Comrie Croft, aiming to arrive by late afternoon.
  • 50km and 650m of ascent
  • Unpack and sort kit before saying goodbye.

Terrain

Expect land rover tracks, wide grassy paths and some easy single track. There will be hills, however it is perfectly OK to take your bike for a walk up these. It may well be wet, so expect mud and puddles.

Weather

This is Scotland in the autumn/winter. You are highly likely to get wet, to experience wind and there may be snow, equally it may be absolutely glorious. BUT this is all part of the adventure. We just need to make sure we are prepared. The bonus is that there is a warm bed and somewhere indoors at the end of each day. In the event of extreme weather where there is a danger to life the trip will be cancelled and alternative dates offered.

What is included:

  • 1 night hostel accommodation
  • All meals (minus snacks)
  • Full set of bikepacking bags
  • Expert guiding and instruction by a local mountain bike guide.

What is not included:

  • Bike
  • Personal clothing
  • Snacks
  • A full kit list is provided on booking.

Bike / bike hire

  • This trip is best suited to a hardtail mountain bike.
  • A full suspension mountain bike is totally fine BUT it may not be possible to fit all bikepacking bags to it. Please bring a small rucksack for any kit that might not fit.
  • The terrain is possible on a gravel bike but it will be much less comfortable.
  • If you do not own a bike, or are unable to transport it to Comrie Croft, you can hire a bike from Comrie Croft Bikes. Please go to the Hire Bike page of this website to book a bike.

Fitness and experience required

You should be comfortable riding your bike for 50km / 30 miles per day for two days in a row on hilly terrain. This trip requires you to have some off-road riding experience.
