Float where the Russian River meets the Pacific on an easy, wildlife-rich guided kayak trip from Jenner. Expect seals, pelicans, short beach landings and 2.5 hours of estuary-to-ocean scenery with expert local guides.
The oar catches, the boat yields, and the Russian River nudges you toward the Pacific. In the way the estuary opens to the ocean here, the water changes character—calm and reflective inland, then restless as it senses the tide. Guides launch from the ridge above Jenner and you slip into a narrow channel framed by alder and coastal scrub. Harbor seals peek like punctuation marks; pelicans ride low and patient over the current. For about 2.5 hours you float between two worlds: river tranquility and an ocean that keeps reminding you it’s close.

Coastal weather changes fast—bring a wind shell over a moisture-wicking base to stay comfortable when fog or wind arrives.
Use a small dry bag for phone and camera and stow it low in the kayak to keep weight centered and gear safe.
Keep a respectful distance from harbor seals and river otters—use binoculars for close views without disturbing them.
Plug directions into your GPS before you leave—turns are twisty and reception near Jenner can be patchy.
This estuary was used for millennia by the Pomo people and later saw limited logging and fishing—today it’s largely conserved as part of the Sonoma Coast’s protected shoreline.
