Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, located in Tulsk, County Roscommon, interprets the archaeological, historical and mythological landscape of Rathcroghan (Cruachan Aí). The centre offers guided archaeological tours and museum admission that introduce visitors to the prehistoric royal complex known as Connacht’s Sacred Capital.
Guided experiences include the Rathcroghan Guided Archaeological Tour (a 2.5-hour exploration) and a version that accepts the OPW Heritage Card. Tours are led by experienced archaeologists who guide visitors across Medieval Tulsk, the ancient Rathcroghan Mound, and the cave Oweynagat — the legendary ‘Gate to Hell.’ These walks combine archaeological evidence, landscape interpretation, and local legend to explain the significance of place and past activities.
The Rathcroghan Museum features award-winning interpretive rooms covering the Iron Age and Medieval periods, with displays of artifacts and storytelling focused on figures such as Warrior Queen Medb. Exhibits are designed to make archaeological contexts accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages.
Rathcroghan Visitor Centre emphasizes research-led interpretation and curated exhibits that reflect current archaeological understanding. By offering archaeologist-led tours and a purpose-built museum, the centre provides reliable, informative experiences that connect visitors directly with one of Ireland’s most important prehistoric royal complexes.
