Recognized as the birthplace of American railroads in 1827, the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad Museum is a designated National Historic Landmark. It holds the oldest and most extensive collection of trains, artifacts and historical records that documents the impact of American railroading and the B&O Railroad on American economics, culture and history.
Located on the site of the former Mt. Clare shops, the museum centerpiece is the roundhouse originally built in 1884 to service passenger cars, and rebuilt after the 2003 roof collapse under record snowfall. It contains an operating turntable used to move equipment among its other on-site buildings.
Whether you have an affinity for history, railroads, or are seeking a unique architectural location to photograph, join the Washington Photo Safari for this event. You will have composition opportunities ranging from very wide angle down to macro-level details with lots of shapes, textures, perspectives and tones to work with. Regardless of whether you enjoy color or monochrome, the museum offers much to choose from.
