About

Step out of the crowds and get a personal tour of the lesser known ruins of Ancient Rome. We begin this tour at the famous Arch of Constantine in the piazza of the Colosseum. The first Christian triumphal arch, it symbolises the victory of Constantine over Maxentius at the battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312AD. From this monument you will walk around the Colosseum and arrive at the Ludus Magnus, the ruins of the largest gladiator school in Rome.

On your way to the next stop, your expert guide will take you past the Emperor’s gate of the Colosseum while explaining the architecture and tradition of the games. From here you will take a walk up the road toward the Arch of Titus, but rather than enter into the archaeological park , your guide will take you to the lesser travelled walkway that leads up to the church of San Sebastiano. This route gives you a lovely view of the Roman Forum as well as some knowledge of the church and the families that occupied the Palatine Hill during the Renaissance, long after this area had been abandoned.

Once you return to the piazza of the Colosseum, your guide will walk you past the Temple of Venus and Rome and discuss Hadrian and his architect Apollodorus of Damascus, who are responsible for the temple’s construction. Once you breach the more crowded piazza, you will stroll down the Via Fori Imperiali (the Imperial Forum Road) where your friendly guide will tell you tales of the Emperors who left their mark on history by constructing smaller forums, as well as what happened to these areas in the age of Mussolini.

At the end of your stroll, you will get a view of the Mamertine Prison, the oldest prison from Ancient Rome, now a church, as well as the Senate Building which still stands to this day. And what tour of Ancient Rome would be complete without a walk up the Capitoline Hill, now known as the Campidoglio, to see the center of the city and the reconstructed piazza designed by Michelangelo in the 16th century. Your amazing guide finishes this walking tour with a bang by taking you to one of the best views in the entire city that only the luckiest tourists in Rome get to see!!
