4–5 hours on-water (7–8 hours total with shuttle)
Suitable for most fitness levels; expect sustained paddling for 4–6 miles with occasional currents and wind.
Paddle 4–6 miles through the volcanic walls of Black Canyon to the photogenic Emerald Cave, enjoy a beach lunch, and spot eagles and bighorn sheep on a fully guided trip with optional Las Vegas shuttle service. This is a day-long river escape that pairs easy kayaking with rich geology and wildlife viewing.
The river arrives as a cool ribbon of emerald, folding around a basalt promontory that seems to drink the sun. You step from sand into a plastic hull and the guide hands you a paddle with the sort of calm briefing that makes confidence contagious: stroke, steer, listen. For the next few hours the Colorado River narrows, cliffs climb, and the world reduces to breath, paddle, and the small sounds of water on rock.

Book the earliest shuttle or self-drive start to enjoy calmer water, softer light, and fewer boats on the river.
If you self-drive, arrive with printed directions and a full tank—don’t rely on ride-share or mobile calls at Willow Beach.
Bring at least 1–2 liters of water, SPF 30+ sunscreen, sunglasses with retention strap, and a wide-brim hat.
Select single or tandem in advance—guides can accommodate preferences but stock is limited, especially for singles.
The Black Canyon corridor was traversed by Mojave peoples and later altered by mining and the construction of Hoover Dam; the river’s flow and access changed dramatically in the 20th century.
The area is ecologically sensitive—clean and dry gear between launches to prevent invasive species and follow Leave No Trace principles on beaches.
Provided by operator but bring any personal PFD for preferred fit and comfort.
Protects feet on rocky launches and provides traction on wet surfaces.
