Coasteering is a fantastic blend of adrenaline, action-packed adventure, and exploration suitable for adults and children of all ages. Traversing along the intertidal zone of the sea or a rocky coastline, it typically includes a mix of short swimming sections, entering and exiting the sea by way of climbing out or over rocks, wading in, scrambling over rocks, cliff jumping, and finding hidden caves to name a few things. It offers a whole different perspective that most will never see.
Coasteering is a great activity as it is open to all abilities with no previous experience required. We tailor our sessions to match group ability whether it’s your first coaster or you’re a seasoned veteran!
The duration of the tour depends on various factors such as the group's pace and individual abilities. On average, it takes approximately 3-4 hours from the time of fitting into your wetsuit and safety gear until the completion of the coasteer. We will meet at the base to ensure proper fitting and then guide the groups to the designated coasteering route for the day (which involves a drive). We will then explore the intertidal zone of our beautiful Isle.
Footwear grips wet and rocky surfaces better than sandals or bare feet, preventing slips during swims and climbs.
Post-coasteering, you’ll want something dry and comfortable to swap into after hours in wetsuits and seawater.
Tides impact access and water conditions, so timing your trip around mid to high tides can improve safety and experience.
This physically demanding activity requires energy; pack water and snacks for after the adventure to recharge.
The rugged coasts of Shetland have long supported fishing communities, and these cliffs often harbor stories of Viking settlers from over a millennium ago.
