Adventure Tips

Wear sturdy shoes with good grip

The volcanic scree and scoria can be slippery and loose underfoot, so footwear with solid traction is essential.

Bring water and snacks

There are no provisions on the trail, so carry enough water and light snacks for energy during the 4.5-hour adventure.

Prepare for changing weather

The mountain summit can be windy and colder than Rotorua town; bring layers and sun protection to stay comfortable.

Motion sickness advice

The 4x4 ride to the trailhead is bumpy; if you get motion sick, alert your guide to choose a smoother spot in the vehicle.
