Itinerary

The Morning Free Walking City Tour starts in Piazza di Spagna by the Spanish Steps and ends at Castel Sant’Angelo, overlooking Saint Peter’s Square and Saint Peter’s Dome in the Vatican State. Our expert tour guides, all licensed and graduated in history of art or archeology, will show you how the places of the Roman Empire have been transformed over the centuries into Papal properties and became symbols of the Popes’ power.

During our Free Morning Tour you will have the opportunity to see some of the major tourist highlights in Rome. You can admire first of all the “Barcaccia” Fountain and then other memorable sites such as the victory Column of Marcus Aurelius, Palazzo Chigi and the Temple of Hadrian, a time temple dedicated to the deified Emperor Hadrian and where the remains of the temple have been incorporated into a late Baroque building. Then you will discover the Pantheon, originally a Roman Temple dedicated to all Pagan Gods, and then transformed into a Church which houses the tomb of Italian Kings and the tomb of Raphael, the greatest painter of the Renaissance. There you can have free time to enter the monument or to have a coffee break, tasting one of the most famous “Espresso Coffee” in Rome at the Tazza d’Oro and Sant’Eustachio bars, two of the most famous cafes in Italy.

You will also visit Piazza Navona, the pride of Baroque Rome, where you can admire the famous and wonderful Four Rivers Fountain, one of the most magnificent masterpieces of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Neptune Fountain. You can also admire the façade of S. Agnese Church, a masterpiece by Francesco Borromini. Navona Square was in the past, the Ancient Roman Stadium for the Olympic Games in Rome and now is definitely the most monumental and amazing Roman square. The tour ends in front of Castel Sant’Angelo. Today it is possible to visit the Castle, also one of the most interesting Museums in Rome.

Crossing the Tiber River, the Ancient River of Rome, across the St. Angelo Bridge (an original Ancient Roman bridge then transformed in a monumental Baroque bridge), you can admire the fantastic 10 Statues of Angels designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and like a surprise you will see on your left the majesty of Saint Peter’s Square and Saint Peter’s Dome in the Vatican State. At the end of the tour you can go and visit St Peter’s Squares, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums with the Vatican Garden and Sistine Chapel.
