We wanted to kick things up a notch and have a fun night for the anglers interested in tying some flies and hanging out at the tavern.
It's back to the vice! Our tying class is fun for all ages and abilities and we will be tying up some winter patterns that are sure to work on our Sierra rivers. Enjoy a couple beers, eat some food, and let's have some fun around the tying table. Class limited to 6 guests.
TFFO pro staffer, Jesse Howes, leads a class held at the shop that will show you the tools and techniques to make repeatable effective patterns at home. The class will highlight seasonal patterns and included all materials to make the pattern on your own vice at home.
Each class member will be set up with their material and a vice to practice during the class while enjoying some of Tahoe’s finest brew or sipping on some good wine.
While tools are often provided, bringing your own favorite vise and scissors can make tying more comfortable and personalized.
Indoor classes may start cool, but layers let you adjust comfort as the evening warms up with activity.
Space is limited so arriving a few minutes before the start ensures you get a good spot and setup.
Engage with the instructor and other participants to deepen your understanding and improve your tying skills.
Truckee grew as a hub during the 19th-century railroad expansion, now a gateway to alpine adventures including fly fishing traditions dating back generations.
The class promotes sustainable fishing practices and educates anglers on protecting delicate river ecosystems vital to native trout.
A steady vise helps hold your hooks in place for precision tying.
Sharp, small scissors are key for cleanly trimming materials.
Additional lighting aids detailed work, especially in dim tavern settings.
Jot down tips, recipes, and patterns for practice after class.
