About

The day starts as a normal day for a falconer, checking the birds - each participant gets a bird to "man" - putting on equipment, weighing them carefully and putting them out for weathering in the garden. We then prepare their food (which includes gutting!) for flying. You will then learn how to pick up your bird of prey from its perch, put it down, tie the falconer's knot and walk around with it. We then focus on more in-depth training techniques and how we might fly the bird to the fist, lure or drone whilst we fly the birds that need to be flown/conditioned for that day. Whilst this IS more hands on in one respect, it does NOT include the magical talk of Falconry 101 where you learn a broad understanding of the history of falconry and gain an in-depth knowledge of ALL the birds that you see, and you do not get to handle as many different birds. You are mainly focused on one bird. This is a more nuts and bolts class and while it is incredible, it is different from our magical 101 which is an immersive experience handling multiple and flying multiple raptors. Please attend Falconry 101 first unless you are only in town a weekend where 102 is offered.

Please Note

Because of the hands-on aspect of this experience, we must require that all participants be ages 8 years or older and anyone under the age of 16 be accompanied by an adult. Unpaid adults may accompany a minor but not participate. Younger participants are accepted on a case by case basis.
