Should be in good aerobic shape and used to full-day rides; capable of multiple ascents and technical descents.
A three-day e-MTB loop from Hanoi through Mai Chau’s rice terraces and limestone passes, covering 110+ km of asphalt, jeep track and singletrack. Expect two half-day rides and one epic full day with long climbs, simple homestays and local Thai village hospitality.
The road out of Hanoi unwinds like a promise: motorcycles give way to trucks, then to terraced paddies and wooden stilt houses, and finally to the thin dust of dirt tracks that only local farmers and mountain bikes know. By the time the group clips in, the valley opens—green rice plateaus surrounded by low limestone ridges and the occasional stand of coffee and tea. Early morning mist lifts off the fields as e-bikes hum to life, giving riders the extra shove needed for long climbs and long days.

Start each day with a full e-bike battery and use lower assist on flats to preserve range for long climbs; bring a small power bank if you rely on a phone for navigation.
Carry at least 2–3 liters of water and a small electrolyte pack—long climbs and heat make dehydration a real limiter.
Choose mountain bike shoes or trail shoes with a firm sole—some sections are steep, loose and require good pedal contact.
Bring a small gift (fruit or sweets), remove shoes indoors and ask before photographing residents to show courtesy.
Mai Chau has long been home to Thai minority communities whose stilt-house architecture and weaving traditions are central to local identity.
Stay on established trails to avoid trampling rice paddies and pack out plastic; many homestays source food locally to reduce transport emissions.
Keeps water and tools accessible during long off-road sections.
Reduce saddle fatigue and protect hands on rough singletrack.
Essential for roadside repairs—many trails are remote with no quick support.
Monsoon showers can appear quickly; a packable shell keeps you riding.
