The mighty Gunnison River starts in small town of Almont about 10 miles north of Gunnison, CO. It drains into Blue Mesa Reservoir then into Morrow Point Reservoir and Crystal Reservoir in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. As the river goes through a canyon (Gunnison Gorge) and out, the North Fork of the Gunnison comes in. There is abundance of hatches throughout the year and the fishing can be amazing even throughout the winter. The section we guide on our walk wade trip is below the confluence of the North Fork. Walk wade fishing can be a much better choice especially in the cold months. During spring, summer, and fall, we do offer a trip on the same section on a drift boat as float fishing trip. Our experienced guide will take you to a few spots on the river with the best prospect and you will get to experience the ”Mighty Gunny”! Our full day trips include lunch and drinks.
The riverbed can be slippery and uneven, so sturdy boots will help maintain balance.
