Lodz is an unusual, diverse city. Here, members of the Polish, German, Jewish and Russian cultures worked and lived together harmoniously at the time of the Industrial Revolution. That period was portrayed in the Oscar-nominated Polish movie “The Promised Land”, shot in Lodz itself. The stunning 19-century red brick factories are still a reminder of those times. Nowadays, together with Rickshaws, they are the symbol of Lodz. The city is also home to a world- famous Lodz Film School with graduates such as Andrzej Wajda and Roman Polanski.
