Guests who are staying in one of the camping or motorhome areas or those who have paid for a guided tour in the Milky Way Glow Worm Cave can have FREE use of the tracks.
Day visitors who just want to walk pay a small fee of $5 each person.
Tracks are continuously being worked on to improve them and generally the tracks nearest the camp areas and office are the best condition.
Day visitors should plan to walk during office hours. We usually open at about 8.30am and shuts about 4.30pm however during long weekends / holiday periods in summer we are often open until about 7pm.
Trail surfaces can be uneven, so sturdy shoes are recommended for safety and comfort.
Some caves and underground passages may require additional light for exploration.
Stay energized with water and snacks during your walk through the park.
Weather can change quickly; plan trips during dry conditions for safer hiking.
The limestone formations have been shaped over thousands of years, with Māori legends attributing their origins to ancestral spirits and geological activity.
Efforts focus on protecting native species and restoring habitats impacted by historic quarrying, ensuring the landscape remains pristine.
Good grip and ankle support are important for navigating uneven trails.
Carrying essentials like water, snacks, and a flashlight is more comfortable with a small pack.
Hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses help protect against UV rays during sunny days.
