About This Adventure

Join a two-part workshop to create your own stunning glass-on-glass mosaic window! Led by mosaic artist Ippy Farnam, you'll learn essential techniques, from design to grouting, while using unique handcrafted materials. Unleash your creativity in a supportive environment and take home a beautiful piece of art.

In this introductory class for creatives aged 13+, you will explore the ins and outs of glass mosaics as you create a framed decorative glass-on-glass window!

Over the span of two three-hour sessions, mosaic artist and teacher Ippy Farnam will cover:

  • what makes a mosaic a mosaic
  • tools used in the mosaic process
  • design considerations
  • glass cutting techniques
  • safety basics
  • gluing and grouting methods.

On the first day of class*, you will learn about techniques and processes while designing and laying out your creation.

On day two*, Ippy will demonstrate the grouting process and assist/supervise as you grout your own pieces.

(If you are still manifesting your creation on day two, no problem: you will receive grouting supplies to finish your piece at home.)

The finished windows measure approximately 12" x 14" within a frame.

All necessary supplies will be provided, including 2 pre-packaged "specialty nubbins" handcrafted at The Furnace that you can incorporate into your piece or take home for a future project.

*Class Dates

  • Please note that this is a TWO PART WORKSHOP.
  • The first day of the workshop is the date you've picked in our booking calendar and is a 4-hour session. The second day of the workshop will be the next day, and will be a 3-hour session:
  • Example: Day One is Friday 4:30 - 8:30pm | Day Two will be Saturday 11am - 2pm
  • Example: Day One is Saturday 11am - 3pm | Day Two will be Sunday 11am - 2pm
  • Example: Day One is Saturday 1-5pm | Day Two will be Sunday 11am - 2pm

What to Bring

  • All your creative vibes.
  • Any photos/images/sketches you'd like to use for inspiration.
  • Snacks/beverage of your choice. (There is a water fountain on the premises but no concessions stand.)

What to Wear

  • Comfortable, closed toe shoes (this is a working shop and you don't want glass shards in your sandals!)
  • Layers. Although the classroom area at The Furnace is an interior space with heat and air conditioning, it is a former auto garage and the temperature will probably feel more varied than your home.
  • Safety glasses will be provided.
