There are few better ways to appreciate the scale and splendor of the Canadian Rockies than by climbing a mountain. A short drive east of the Jasper Townsite, Morro Peak is a great first-summit for adventurers new to the Rockies (or those looking in search of panoramic viewpoints). The route climbs 700 m over the course of 6.8 km and is a great choice for day of exercise, and adventure.
Your guide, Ben Nearingburg, is a Jasper-local and author of several guidebooks who help you connect with the history, and ecology of the Jasper region. At the summit of Morro Peak, we can munch on a tasty lunch while we have ample opportunity to enjoy the landscape.
We provide hiking poles, lunch, and water for your ascent; all you need to bring is a pair of boots and a sense of adventure.
What is included? Guiding Hiking Poles Picnic Lunch
What does a day on the trail look like? Hiking up Morro Peak requires a morning start (meeting at 0930 in the Jasper Townsite). After a quick meeting we set off to the trailhead, a ~15 minute drive East of town (transportation to the trailhead is not included, contact us if you need transportation). The trail can be steep at places, but with a steady pace we hike upwards and are rewarded with a spectacular summit view (and tasty summit picnic).
How should I prepare? This route climbs 700 vertical meters and can be quite energetic for those from lower elevations. While the route itself does not require any specific preparation, it is strongly recommended for guests to be comfortable hiking up steep hills for 3-4 hours with short breaks. Contact us if you would like more information on the route.
What is not included? Transportation to the Trailhead Personal Equipment (see list below)
Are there any risks? Any travel in the mountains comes with some risks. All guests will be required to read, understand, and agree to our Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumptions of Risks and Indemnity Agreement which fully details risks associated with this adventure.
