As we journey through time, we will explore how the bog (or peatland) was formed, its myths and legends, an ancient monastic site; traditional turf cutting as well as the unique biodiversity of the bog and its role in the fight against climate change.
We will also see green energy in action as we ramble through this dramatic landscape.
Our lunch stop (morning tours) or snack break (afternoon tours) will be upon a hilltop with panoramic views of Lough Swilly and West Donegal.
A good of fitness is required for this hike as it has a 200m ascent. 10 km distance.
Waterproof coat and trousers, hat, and gloves, walking boots, lunch and lots to drink (2L), warm clothing, face mask and hand sanitiser and a rucksack to carry it all in. Don’t forget your camera! This walk is on track and mixed terrain which can be wet, boggy, and slippery in places. A good level of fitness is required for this walk which includes 200 metres of ascent.
The terrain can be muddy and uneven; sturdy, waterproof shoes are essential.
