Only 1.5 hrs north of Sydney
Departing Sydney at 0600 and only 90 minutes from Sydney, the Central coast has some beautiful habitats and bird species not found so easily in Sydney. Ourimbah Rest Stop is a great place to start. We look for Bassian Thrush, Regent Bowerbird, Green Catbird, Yellow-throated Scrubwren and other rainforest species. We then head off to Central Coast Wetlands (Pioneer Dairy) where over 230 species have been recorded, including a variety of waterbirds and Red-rumped Parrots. Tuggerah Wetlands is close by and has a variety of waterbirds as is McPherson Road Swamp, where we may see the giant Black-necked Stocrk. Palmdale is an exciting stop for Australian Logrunner, Noisy Pitta, Rose Robin and White-headed Pigeon. Final stop is St Huberts Island to locate the elusive Bush Stone-curlew.
Expect to identify 80+species. Arrive back in Sydney around 1800.
