About This Adventure

!Description of image In 2022 we began a partnership with First Nations Storytellers to begin offering a series of tours that highlight local First Nations history.

For thousands of years prior to the establishment of Saint John as Canada’s oldest incorporated city, a flourishing Nation, the Wolastoqiyik called the area home. On this 3-4 hour guided kayak experience, learn about how they lived along the “beautiful river” in balance with nature and how it was integral to their movement around the region and province.

**Due to the amount of planning and logistics involved in this tour, a minimum of 6 guests are necessary for this tour to run, if the 6 person limit isn't met, you'll be given the option to switch to a basic sunset tour and price adjusted.

How the evening will play out:

We'll meet at the beach pre-sunset, taking some time to get everyone fitted with your gear before your guide goes over safety procedures and basic paddling instruction.

Depending on the tour date, we have 3 different start points for this tour, highlighting different locations important to our local first nation cultures.

On each sunset tour, we'll be stopping along the way at a river beach for a small bon fire and to enjoying traditional Bannock as well as a locally sourced smoked sturgeon platter. The return paddle under (hopefully, cloud cover dependent) moonlight, giving us a chance to enjoy the serenity of paddling under starlight.

What is included:

  • PFD
  • Paddle
  • Spray Skirt
  • Tandem kayak**
  • Intro to gear/safety instruction
  • Bannock and smoked sturgeon sampling **All guests paddle tandem kayaks.
  • a 10L dry bag will be provided for you to use for your shoes/bon fire "gear"

Additional considerations:

  • Guides have total authority to cancel or modify a tour if the safety of the group is at risk.
  • This tour can be offered different times of the day by request (for private groups, corporate events, etc)

What to wear/bring:

  • eco-friendly Bug spray
  • Non-Cotton Clothing (Jeans are not safe for water sports)
  • Long sleeve shirt for the bon-fire and the paddle back (just in case, but this will become more important for tours early and late in the season)
  • Hat and Sunglasses
  • Water Shoes if you have them, otherwise, footwear that you're ok with getting a bit wet
  • Change of clothes and a towel to leave in the car
  • Water in a reusable bottle

This tour is also a Stonehammer UNESCO Global Geopark Experience !Stonhammer
