About

Montreal is known for three iconic foods: poutine, smoked meat, and bagels, the last two of which are Montreal variations of traditional Ashkenazi food. Montreal is home to one of the oldest and largest Jewish community in Canada. The artistic, literary, and culinary achievements of Montreal’s Jewish community are a vital part of the city’s spirit and identity.

This tour will expertly guide your tummy, heart and mind through Montreal’s historic Jewish neighborhoods. You will have the chance to eat delicious traditional Jewish food all the while learning about the story of the community, its institutions and eateries within an intimate group. You will leave full after comparing rival smoked meat and bagels, have a taste of an authentic Israeli falafel, visit a deli that are the only ones who do what they do, punctuated with pastries and ice cream if the temperature is right. Don’t miss the chance to meet the people that run the institutions that have been open for three or four generations. This was the first Jewish Food Tour in Montreal and it is given only by certified Montreal Tour Guides that are mavericks in the subject and the city at large.

• Learn about delis, diners, bagel factories, class conflict, yiddish poetry and kibitzing. • Visit 8 classic Jewish food establishments! This tour is a must for those that enjoy classic Jewish delights and history buffs.

  • This tour runs from March 1st to October 31st.
