About

  • Please Note: This is a very rough road and not good for people with back problems.
  • It takes 2 to 2.5 hours to drive to the top of Hunt's Mesa. It takes the same amount of time to get off the mesa.
  • We camp overnight on the mesa. We start from the Visitor's Center 5 hours before sundown. Once we are on top of the mesa we drop you off where you will photograph the sunset. After sundown we go into camp for a hot supper. Next morning we go to a different location to photograph the sunrise. After breakfast we head back down the mesa and back at the Visitor's Center around 10:00 or 11:00 am.

Additional Information:

  • We can provide everything like tents, sleeping bags and mats.
  • Do bring your own flashlight and good hiking boots and pillows.
  • We will need to know if anyone is on a dietary restriction

Things to Remember

  • We operate on daylight savings time. Utah time, not Arizona time.
  • We start all of our tours from the Visitor's Center in Monument Valley.
  • Highway 163 runs north and south through Monument Valley. 1/4 mile north of Arizona, Utah state line there is an intersection. Turn East. Go 4 miles and you are at the Visitor's Center.

There is a $8.00 per person Entrance Fee. This is a Navajo Tribal park, not a National Park..

Adventure Tips

Prepare for Rough Roads

Expect a slow, bumpy 2–2.5 hour drive up steep, uneven roads—best avoided by those with back problems.

Bring a Quality Flashlight

Nighttime navigation around camp requires a good flashlight since there is no artificial light atop the mesa.

Wear Sturdy Hiking Boots

Durable boots will protect your feet over rocky terrain both during the drive and around camp.
