Bees are important to our environment and we want to help you learn more about how bees live together in the hive and pollinate our flowers and food.
After touring the urban farm and spotting pollinators busy collecting nectar and pollen on the flowers in the orchard, we will move to the apiary where the bees are kept to suit up in a beekeeper suit and gloves to see the bees up close.
You will see the bees up close and personal as you hold bees in your hands and look inside the hive. You will watch bees doing all of their important jobs in the hive, making honey and maybe even spot the queen bee.
The tour concludes with a honey tasting including seasonal fruit so you can taste the honey made by the bees you visited.
Please wear long pants, tall socks and closed toe shoes. Your feet and ankles need to be covered for the open hive portion of the tour. Some guests like to wear or bring a long sleeved shirt, but that's optional. We will be suiting up in beekeeping coveralls and elbow length gloves, so wear something comfortable and cool. Consider bringing a hat and extra water on hot days. We will be outdoors for the entirety of the experience.
Bees are attracted to bright colors and strong scents, so dressing neutrally helps keep them calm.
Scented products may agitate bees, so avoid perfumes or scented lotions before your visit.
Following beekeeper instructions closely ensures your safety and a smooth experience around the hives.
Bring water or hydrate beforehand, as the suit can be warm during the tour, especially in summer.
