The 911 Memorial & Museum honors the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2011 and Feb. 26, 1993, and recognizes the courage of those who survived and salutes those who risked their lives to help others. Martz Tours will take you directly to the site on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and you don’t need to worry about tickets. You’re encouraged to explore at your own pace but take your time at the outdoor memorial which stretches across eight acres of the World Trade Center complex. The focal points are two pools that contain the largest man-made waterfalls in North America, each descending 30 feet into a square basin. From the water in each pool drops another 20 fee and disappears into a smaller, central void. The names of the 2,983 people who were killed in the 2001 and 1993 terrorist attacks are inscribed on bronze parapets edging the memorial pools. The 110,000-square-foot museum tells the story of 911 through artifacts, imagery, personal stories and interactive technology. The exhibition is made up of three parts: the events of the day as they unfolded; before 911 with historical context leading up to the attacks; and after 911 which addresses the immediate aftermath and ongoing repercussions of the terrorist attacks.
