Embark on a full-day hiking adventure in Hatcher Pass, where you'll traverse 9 miles of rugged backcountry trails. Experience breathtaking alpine lakes, a waterfall, and stunning tundra views while learning about local flora, fauna, and mining history. Trip details:

Our tundra adventure is designed for those who want a more active hiking experience. Longer trip time means more hours to get into the Alaska backcountry. This trip can be a combination of both a trail and off-trail activity, perfect for folks with prior hiking experience.

Frequent hiking locations include the Hatcher Pass area, Matanuska Peak area, and Chugach State Park.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable hiking boots or trail shoes
  • Comfortable attire (long hiking pants and a breathable shirt). No cotton or denim if possible, as it gets very heavy and cold when wet.
  • Small backpack
  • Additional layers (hat, liner gloves, light jacket)
  • Rain gear - If you have it, carrying both rain pants and a rain jacket is recommended
  • Water (1-2 liters recommended)
  • Light snacks
  • Any routine medications

  • Round-trip transportation from downtown Palmer (option to add-on Anchorage, Wasilla or Palmer pick up)
  • A local guide with Wilderness First Responder training
